We seek to contribute to the empowerment and economic and social participation of indigenous women in northern Chile.
Since 2016, UN Women -with the support of Teck- has been implementing the ORIGINARIAS program for the empowerment of indigenous women in the North of Chile, a project that seeks to contribute to the empowerment and economic and social participation of indigenous women and to consolidate their tangible progress made on participation and equitable representation, which leads to a greater autonomy and a better quality of life for the target communities.
For the implementation of Originarias program’s first stage, three development phases were established: the first phase is about Diagnosis, whose goal is to generate evidence about the current status and needs of indigenous women in terms of economic empowerment and productive development. The second phase corresponds to the Data Analysis and Findings made in situ in order to design the program’s requirements and, at the same time, establish guidelines together with the indigenous women. The third phase of the process is the Pilot Program, which seeks to generate a space to encourage networking, to strengthen leaderships and to provide training related to socioeconomic empowerment.
